An agreement between the Climate Action Authority and Aġenzija Sapport will see photovoltaic panels installed on the roof of a day centre in Paola, generating clean energy equivalent to the needs of 67 homes.
The call for tenders for this project was published on behalf of Aġenzija Sapport in recent days, and the project is part of a series being coordinated by the Climate Action Authority with the aim of using public spaces for the generation of alternative energy, so that government authorities continue to lead by example and remain at the forefront of the environmental transition.
This project, funded by the Climate Action Authority, is expected to involve an investment of approximately €180,000 and could decrease emissions by 113 metric tonnes of CO2 annually.
The Chief Executive of the Climate Action Authority, Ing. Abigail Cutajar, explained how the authority continues to seek collaboration with as many entities as possible to drive initiatives that make a tangible difference. “We are very pleased to be working with Aġenzija Sapport on this project and I want to thank them for their willingness. This project joins others, like those we are planning across a number of schools where photovoltaic panels will also be installed to produce clean energy. While the government offers various incentives to help people make the transition, we are seeing public entities also taking their own initiatives, and the Climate Action Authority will continue to be present both with technical assistance and by contributing to investment,” said Cutajar.
The Chief Executive of Aġenzija Sapport, Mr Oliver Scicluna, stated that the agency collaborated on this initiative with full conviction. “While we work in the disability sector, this does not mean we are not aware of the contribution we can make to the environment through decisions we make every day in our operations. It was for this reason that we planned for the rooftop space at our day centre in Paola to be used for the installation of panels producing clean energy. We are pleased that for this purpose we worked hand in hand with the Climate Action Authority,” said Scicluna.
