Strengthening Malta’s Climate Action: Regulation, Awareness, and Leading by Example

As climate change continues to reshape economies, ecosystems, and communities across the globe, the urgency for coordinated, evidence-based action has never been greater. Meeting climate goals requires faster action, stronger collaboration, and a clear focus on both reducing emissions and adapting to the impacts of a changing climate. Malta’s Climate Action Authority fully embraces this direction, and the work carried out throughout 2025 reflects a deliberate effort to translate these imperatives into tangible national outcomes.

In 2025, the CAA made significant strides across three key areas. On regulation,  compliance was achieved across all market-based measures. On awareness, ‘Il-Kontribut Tiegħi’ campaign and a children’s publication in collaboration with EkoSkola brought climate action to the heart of Maltese society whilst on Government leading by example, work is ongoing to install PVs across four public schools expected to reduce CO₂ emissions by 268 tonnes annually.

Together, these achievements mark a confident step toward Malta’s low-carbon, climate-resilient future.
